ROLLI CACCHIONI

The key one I think is - do I support the SOGI 123 materials and resources developed and distributed by the MOE ?

Yes,  I do . As a former teacher , vice-principal and Principal in the District I have had to deal numerous times with students who were bullying or excluding other students form activities, etc . because of their differences . I always dealt with these incidents in a forth wright manner, even to the extent of suspending students to the District Discipline Committee . A Committee I have sat on a number of times as a  Trustee.

As a professional teacher , I signed on to and fully subscribed to the BCTF Code of Ethics which states in  part -the member speaks and acts toward students with respect and dignity ,and deals judiciously with them ,always mindful of their individual rights and sensibilities .The Code of Conduct for principals is similar .

The current Trustees have supported and have directed the Superintendent of Schools to deploy staff to participate in the setting up of the Foundry in Kelowna , also the Hub located at Pearson Road Elementary and to participate in the City of Kelowna Journey Home initiative . There are a number of  our students who are homeless , so this was important to be a part of this . I personally attended a number of sessions of the Journey Home programme.

The School Board amended the Board policies sto ensure that they were in compliance with the BC Human Rights Commission .

I will continue to vote as a Trustee on matters referred to in your questions , as I have done in the past to ensure our public schools remain as safe and invitational institutions for all students and staff .

Please check the SD # 23 website -minutes of past Board and Committee meetings - to view all of my votes since I have been on the Board .

Thanks for the opportunity to respond to your questionnaire .
